How to Care For, Wash, and Dry Garments with 3D Pop Embroidery to Prevent Thread Fraying and Form Distortion
Alongside traditional flat embroidery techniques, 3D pop embroidery (3D Puff) and applique thêu nghệ thuật (Applique) are dominant trends sweeping through modern Local Brand fashion collections. Thanks to a specialized foam backing , 3D puff embroidery delivers a thick, structured layout that creates an incredibly eye-catching and premium visual effect.
However, as the saying goes, "durability depends on the user." Because of its multi-layered thread structure stacked to build up height, this type of apparel demands a more specific care and maintenance routine than regular clothing. To keep your embroidery sharp, free from fraying, and safe from warping, Thanh An Phat Computerized Embroidery brings you the most standard washing and drying guide below.
1. Why does 3D pop embroidery easily get damaged if washed incorrectly?
Unlike flat embroidery which sits close to the fabric surface, 3D pop embroidery (commonly found on hoodies, caps, and oversize T-shirts) features a highly elevated, raised texture. This exposes the embroidered surface to much more direct friction inside the washing drum:
If washed together with garments that have metal zippers or snap buttons, the thread strands can easily get snagged, leading to loose fibers and surface fuzzing.
Drying at excessively high temperatures can cause the foam cushion inside the embroidery to shrink or deform, resulting in distorted shapes and puckered borders.
Aggressive detergents will strip away the natural sheen of the embroidery thread, causing the design to turn dull and faded prematurely.
2. The Standard Washing Process for 3D Pop Embroidered Clothing
To keep your embroidered designs permanently beautiful over time, apply this simple 3-step laundry routine:
Step 1: Pre-Wash Preparation (Extremely Important)
Turn inside out: Always flip your clothes inside out before washing. This ensures the basic knit fabric takes the friction from the wash lồng, absolutely protecting the 3D embroidered thread face on the front from rubbing.
Use a laundry bag: If machine washing, place the garment inside a separate mesh laundry bag. The bag prevents the item from wrapping tightly around other clothes, which stretches out the shirt form and distorts the embroidery.
Separate items: Avoid washing with open-zipper jeans, bras with metal hooks, or items featuring rough, coarse surfaces.
Step 2: Choosing the Wash Cycle and Detergent
Prioritize hand washing: If time permits, a gentle hand wash and squeeze is the absolute best way to safeguard embroidered items.
Machine wash setting: Select a delicate cycle (Delicate/Gentle) or a wool cycle with a low spin speed.
Water temperature: Wash strictly with cold water or lukewarm water under 30°C. Hot water is the number one enemy that shrinks synthetic embroidery threads.
Detergents: Use neutral soap or diluted liquid detergent. Never pour liquid bleach (Javel) directly onto the embroidery.
Step 3: Proper Line Drying and Airing
Do not wring out completely by hand: After washing, you should only squeeze gently to let the excess water drain. Do not aggressively twist or wring the fabric right where the 3D pop embroidery is located.
Limit heat drying: The best method is to let the garment air dry naturally. If machine drying is mandatory, the Air Dry mode or an ultra-low temperature setting. High heat from a dryer will ruin the inner 3D foam structure.
How to hang: Hang the shirt using wide-molded hangers in a well-ventilated, shaded spot. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight beaming straight into the embroidery to preserve the vibrant thread luster.
3. Ironing Secrets and Closet Maintenance
Absolutely do not crush or fold 3D embroidery in half: When storing the garment in your closet, prioritize hanging it on a hanger instead of folding it. Pressing fold lines directly across the middle of a 3D design creates permanent creases that break the pop shape.
Ironing tips for embroidery: Never place a hot iron directly onto the 3D embroidered threads. Instead, flip the shirt inside out and iron from the reverse side, or lay a thin, clean piece of cotton cloth over the embroidery before pressing. If using a standing garment steamer, maintain a distance of 5 - 10cm from the nozzle to the embroidery.
4. Thanh An Phat - Quality Embroidery Built to Last
Whether an embroidered design lasts or not depends largely on the user's care habits, but the initial thread quality and factory embroidery technique play the deciding roles.
At Thanh An Phat Computerized Embroidery, all 3D pop embroidery products are processed using premium embroidery threads with exceptional colorfastness and strong friction resistance. This is paired with high-quality foam s molded to meet strict US export criteria. As a result, finished goods from the Thanh An Phat factory possess outstanding durability, minimizing fuzzing and warping after washing.
